Man admits spitting on staff at Aberdeen gym

A man has been ordered to behave by a sheriff after he spat on a member of staff at an Aberdeen gym.

Benjamin Scott-Wilson became aggressive when Craig White started to question him about his membership at the David Lloyd Sport Facility in Garthdee.

The unemployed 23-year-old spat on the worker’s face in response.

Yesterday Scott-Wilson appeared at the city’s sheriff court and admitted committing the assault on January 19.

Representing Scott-Wilson, solicitor advocate Ian Woodward-Nutt said his client was a young man who did not receive benefits despite not being in employment.

He said he lived at home with his parents and on the day in question had been attending the gym.

The court heard that when Mr White started to ask Scott-Wilson about his membership he started to act in a “bizarre” manner.

Mr Woodward-Nutt said that his client appreciated that his behaviour that day was “wholly unacceptable, unsavory and appalling”, however he said it was out of character for the young man.

The court heard that despite the fact he does not work he does carry out a number jobs voluntarily.

The solicitor advocate said Scott-Wilson, who is described in court papers as living at the Bon Accord hostel in Aberdeen, had helped his parents in the garden and around the house and occasionally helped out in the cafe at the Gordon Highlanders’ museum.

Sheriff Edward Savage told the young man that he was going to defer sentence on him for three months to allow him to be of good behaviour.

He said that if he was to stay out of trouble the court would take this into consideration when deciding on an appropriate sentence.
