Hated by children every where, “No Ball Games” signs could soon be a thing of the past in Aberdeen.
Proposals to remove the signage, would make Aberdeen the first Scottish city to give the fun stoppers the boot.
Council staff have recommended that members of the communities, housing and infrastructure committee approve of removing the signs, with a provisional date of August 3, 2016 already lined up for getting rid of them.
The council officers also recommend that no more of the signs be put up.
A report by environmental manager Steven Shaw outlined the removals would encourage children to get outside and play.
The report said: “There are several hundred signs spread throughout the city.
“The location of the signs is known and a planned programme of removal will take place.
“It will remove barriers to outdoor play for children and adults, which may lead to increased physical activity.”
The signs have been erected over decades at the request of local residents to deter antisocial behaviour however they have no ‘status’ and are not enforceable by any legislation or statute.
