A police investigation is underway after a pedestrian was killed on the A90 in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the fatal smash close to Stracathro, at around 2.30am.
A man, who was reportedly naked, was hit by a car travelling behind a Press and Journal delivery lorry after the driver swerved to avoid him.
It is understood he had been crouched on the central reservation between the northbound and southbound routes before the incident took place.
The Press and Journal delivery driver had slowed down after seeing the man, who he initially thought was a deer, but was forced to swerve when the man went onto the road.
The vehicle behind is understood to have then collided with him, sending him into the air.
It is believed the pedestrian’s vehicle was left parked on the other side of the embankment, on the southbound side of the A90.
A police spokesman said : “Police can confirm that sadly a man has died following a road traffic collision at Stracathro on the A90.
“No further details are available until the next of kin have been informed.”
The A90 was closed for much of yesterday morning and afternoon, with a 51-mile diversion in place via Brechin and Edzell until it was re-opened just before 5pm.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident to come forward by calling 101.
