Aberdeenshire animal rescuers plea for blankets to keep animals snug

A busy north-east animal charity has made a plea for donations to help keep its residents warm through the night.
The Scottish SPCA’s animal rescue and rehoming centre in Drumoak is appealing for blankets and towels, which will be used to keep the cats, dogs and other small animals snug.
Workers at the centre said a huge number of the items had been used in recent weeks on the often abandoned and injured animals within its care.
Last year, 850 animals were brought into the car of the Deeside shelter.
Claire Tyczynska, assistant manager at the rehoming centre, said: “We’re going through lots of blankets and towels at the moment as we use them in the cattery, kennels and small animals section.
“We also use them for the wildlife that arrives in our care. New or used blankets and towels which are clean and in good condition would be a great help to us and we’ll certainly put them to good use.
“Unfortunately, we can’t accept duvets or pillows as the insides can be harmful to the animals if they tear and eat them.”
Donations can be handed in to the centre, which is open seven days a week from 10am-4pm.
