Police investigating a fire which closed a north-east primary school are keeping an “open mind” over the cause of the blaze.
Buchanhaven Primary School in Peterhead was closed to pupils and staff yesterday following the fire on Sunday night.
Two fire crews from the town were called around 8.20pm to tackle the fire, which occurred above the kitchen and was confined to the roof.
The fire was extinguished by 8.36pm. Police officers also attended the scene and are continuing to carry out inquiries.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said they were keeping “an open mind” as to the cause of the blaze.
A police spokeswoman added: “We are appealing for anyone in the area at the time to get in touch.”
The school in Peterhead’s Hope Street was due to reopen this morning.
Last night Aberdeenshire Council’s primary education boss, Andrew Griffiths, said: “A small fire took place yesterday evening at Buchanhaven School and on the advice of the
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service it has been closed today while the damage is fully assessed.”
He added: “Parents have been informed and it is expected that pupils and staff should be able to return tomorrow.”
