A man has been jailed for more than four months for stealing £14 worth of alcohol.
Graham Milne appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court from custody yesterday and admitted taking drink worth £5.99 from the Co-Op on Union Street on Thursday night.
The repeat offender then stole alcohol worth £8.50 from Sainsbury’s, also on Union Street, the following day.
The court heard the 42-year-old had just been released early from jail 11 days before the first offence.
Solicitor Laura Maitland said her client had been serving a sentence for offences of the exact same nature.
Miss Maitland said Milne had a “long-standing” history of alcohol abuse and had been under the influence of drink when he was caught shoplifting.
The court heard none of the alcohol had been recovered.
Sentencing Milne, of 23 Jamaica Street, Aberdeen, Sheriff Alison Stirling said that there was no alternative than to impose a custodial sentence given his previous convictions.
She ordered him to return to prison to serve six weeks of the sentence he was released early from. She also sentenced him to a further four months behind bars.
