Police investigating a crash that killed a young dad are appealing for help to trace the occupants of a car seen in the area shortly before.
Father-of-two Barry McRae, of Catterline, near Stonehaven, died after being hit by a car on the northbound carriageway of the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road at about 2.30am on Friday.
Now police are appealing for the occupants of a black Audi A3 seen in the southbound lay-by before the crash to come forward.
The vehicle is believed to have been travelling from Stonehaven on the A90 before stopping at a lay-by just north of the Brechin junction, near Stracathro, where the collision occurred a short time later.
It is thought Mr McRae may have been in the car before the accident.
It is understood the 34-year-old, who was naked at the time of the accident, was crouched on the central reservation of the carriageway near Stracathro just before he was struck.
A police spokeswoman said: “Officers investigating the circumstances surrounding the road traffic collision on the A90 near Stracathro are appealing for witnesses who may have information to assist with inquiries.
“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a black Audi car travelling southbound on the A90 in the early hours of Friday morning.
“Anyone travelling on the A90 between 1.30am and 2.30am on Friday who saw the vehicle or the occupants is asked to contact Police Scotland.”
A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
