A power outage at Aberdeen University’s £57million library has left readers in the dark for more than a week.
The Sir Duncan Rice Library has been closed since Thursday, as an electrical fault has cut off all power to the seven-storey building – just weeks before the students return.
A university spokesman said last night that technicians were working on the fault and it was hoped power would be restored this week.
He added students could still order books online.
He said: “A fault in the plant room which supplies the Sir Duncan Rice Library has resulted in a power outage.
“A specialist is looking at the problem and it is hoped power can be restored sometime this week.
“From Tuesday staff and students will be able to order books online through the library web pages, to be collected at the
Taylor or Polwarth buildings. Books can be returned to Taylor or Polwarth.”
The library, named after former principal Sir Duncan Rice, was opened by the Queen in September last year amid much fanfare.
