A fisherman who fell from a north-east fishing boat near Aberdeen has been named.
Nuertey Annang, of Ghana, had been fishing on the Banff-registered Aquarius BF89 in the early hours of August 17 when he fell into the water near Girdleness Lighthouse.
A massive searched was launched at about 2am, involving the coastguard, lifeboat teams and nearby ships, but there has been no trace of the 47-year-old.
Now the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) and the police have launched a joint inquiry into the circumstances of the incident.
A police spokesman said that the probe was a “matter of routine” while a spokeswoman for MAIB confirmed that it was looking into the case.
The operation to recover Mr Annang was called off after eight hours, by which point only his lifering had been found.
Last night, a police spokeswoman said his next of kin had been made aware.
It is believed that Mr Annang had been living in Peterhead.
