Hundreds of people calling for the restoration of an historic Aberdeen swimming pool are expected to attend a rally today.
More than 400 people are due to gather at the Bon Accord Baths at noon for the half hour demonstration.
Yesterday, the Save Bon Accord Baths group’s revealed their vision for the Justice Mill Lane attraction through artist impressions.
As part of renovation work, the group – who have lead the campaign to renovate and reopen the pool – would like to retain the art deco design, while also modernising the building and installing geo-thermal heating.
Other proposals include potentially removing some spectator seats to allow for the cafe to be extended, creating a gym and possibly installing glass panes in the baths’ roof to enhance the space.
The exterior of the building would also be upgraded.
Council cutbacks caused the baths to close their doors in 2008 after 68 years in operation.
The building was put on the market by the local authority in January and seven bids, including one from Bon Accord Heritage, are believed to have been made for the site.
A petition to allow the Bon Accord Heritage plans has gathered nearly 2,000 signatures.
Council chiefs will meet next week to decide the fate of the city centre landmark.
John Law of Save Bon Accord Baths said he hoped to see as many people as possible at the demonstration to “show the level of support” of the group’s plans.
He said: “We’re having (the rally) primarily to demonstrate to the city council that we have the support of the people of Aberdeen for our project to renovate the baths before the crucial meeting next week.
“This is an opportunity for the people of the city to come out and show they want to retain the unique building as a working baths.”
He added that he hoped that parts of the building could be reopened within months if the bid is successful.
Group trustee Craig Adams said: “This isn’t just a pool – ultimately the baths is such an incredible building that once fully renovated it would have real potential as a major city centre tourist attraction.”
