A van driver who smashed into the back of a motorcyclist then about turned and fled the scene has been fined nearly £500.
Michael Stevenson, 36, was driving on the city’s King Street when he crashed into the motorcyclist who was stopped at a red light in front of him.
The biker was thrown into the air before landing on his feet.
Miraculously, he escaped unhurt, although witnesses said he was lucky not to have been seriously injured.
Meanwhile Stevenson brazenly peformed a U-turn and took off in the opposite direction.
The crash happened at the junction with Union Street, just outside Italian restaurant La Lombardo.
Chef Michael Wyatt, whose parents own the restaurant, was one of the people who watched on in amazement as events unfolded.
He said: “I just heard this bang and looked out the window.
“They guy from the motorbike was standing on the road.
“Then the guy in the van did a U-turn right there on King Street and just took off.”
The entire incident, which happened on March 8, was captured on the restaurant’s CCTV which was handed to police to assist with their investigation.
Mr Wyatt added: “The biker got quite a bang. He actually landed on his feet but his bike was a mess on the ground. He was really shocked when he saw the CCTV footage of him going up in the air.
“He couldn’t believe that the guy just drove away.
“It’s good that the driver’s been caught and fined.”
Stevenson admitted two charges of careless driving and failing to stop at an accident when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on July 27.
He was fined £490 and received four penalty points on his driving licence.
