A woman was seriously injured and her two friends also hurt in a crash on a north-east back road yesterday.
A black Ford Fiesta careered off the Newhills to Bucksburn road at around 4.10pm yesterday before rolling several times and landing on its side in an adjacent field.
Smashed glass could be seen littering the field and the car was badly damaged with broken windows and a severely dented roof.
The car was travelling towards Bucksburn at the time of the incident and is thought to have careered through the grass before finally coming to a stop a number of feet from the road.
Kind-hearted motorists stopped and helped the injured women out of the car before paramedics arrived to take them to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
One of the three women was believed to have suffered “serious” injuries while the other two were less severely hurt.
Speaking at the scene, Inspector Kenneth McGeough praised the passing drivers who stopped to help.
He said: “At around 4.10pm we received a call that a vehicle had left the Newhills to Bucksburn road.
“Members of the public stopped and assisted the three occupants.
“The members of the public should be commended for coming to a stop and helping the occupants.
“Often people would just pass by and continue on their business.”
Fire crews were called to the accident, and made the scene safe.
A fire service spokesman said: “We got the call at 4.37pm and just made the vehicle safe. The people were out by the time we got there.
“We had two appliances from North Anderson Drive and nine firefighters. They used just small tools.”
The road was closed for about an hour, causing major delays for commuters who use the road to avoid the Haudagain roundabout as they head out onto the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road.
Traffic then had to pass slowly on the small rural road, with one lane partially blocked by police vehicles as officers investigated the scene.
An ambulance service spokesman was not available for comment last night.
