North-east youngsters can find out how strong the force is with them this weekend as a local shop is offering training in the ways of the Jedi.
The Disney store in the Bon Accord centre is offering children Jedi training on Saturday and Sunday (September 5/6) ahead of the seventh instalment of the Sci Fi series in December.
The entertainment empire has released a new range of merchandising for blockbuster ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ as part of Disney’s ‘Force Friday’ global launch.
Craig Stevenson, manager at Bon Accord & St Nicholas said: “The Disney Store has always been popular with shoppers at the Bon Accord mall and the addition of Star Wars to its product range will increase this even further.
“There was a real buzz of excitement this morning when the shop welcomed the first customers through its doors and with the free Jedi training for children and other giveaways taking place this weekend, it’s shaping up to be a must-visit for all north-east Star Wars fans.”
In Scotland, 14,052 people stated that Jedi was their current religion (14,014 “Jedi”, 24 “Jedi Order” and 14 “Sith”) and 2,733 stated that it was their religion of upbringing (2,682 “Jedi”, 36 “Jedi Order” and 15 “The Dark Side”) in the 2001 census.
The proportion of people stating their religion as Jedi in Scotland was lower than that in England and Wales, at 0.277%.
In April 2009, it became known that eight police officers serving with Scotland’s largest police force, Strathclyde, listed their official religion as Jedi in voluntary diversity forms.
