A north-east man embroiled in a visa row has said he “desperately” wants to come home with his new bride.
Gordon Riddell, 60, married his wife Carmen, 42, in earlier this year in her Dominican Republic homeland.
The lovebirds want to relocate to the north-east and live in Inverurie, where Gordon hails from. But attempts to secure a visa for Carmen have failed.
Gordon first met mum-of-two Carmen, a hotel catering assistant, in 2009 when he visited the Caribbean on holiday.
The pair married in February and are currently living in the Dominican Republic.
Mr Riddell said: “When I went back home after my visit in November I was miserable without her.
“We decided to stay together and get married. I applied for a resident’s visa for my wife to move to the UK but it was refused in June.”
He added: “They told us the visa was rejected as they didn’t think we had been married for genuine reasons.
“They also said Carmen doesn’t speak English very well but she’s learning as she goes along and she was going to start classes once she got to Scotland.”
A spokeswoman for the Home Office said they do not comment on individual cases.
