Pupils at an Aberdeen school have given a charity that provides help to young people overcoming trauma a cash boost.
Children 1st has been given £3,000 thanks to the persuasive efforts of St Margaret’s School pupils Eilish Murphy, Emily Owen, Priyanka Wickramasinghe, Cecily Burnett-Stuart, Catherine Ross, and Marina Calder.
The girls took part in the Wood Foundation’s Youth and Philanthropy Initiative, and successfully presented their case for why the charity should get the cash to the panel of judges.
The group nominated Children 1st after visiting their office and being impressed by the work they do.
Emma Finlayson, the fundraising manager for the north of Scotland, was grateful for the group’s support.
She said: “Their generosity will have a real impact on the work we do at Children 1st, enabling us to provide 120 hours worth of essential support to local children and young people who have suffered from abuse and trauma.
“We provide 12 sessions a week of around one hour in length to children who can be as young as four.
“These provide a safe space where they can enjoy art and drama and deal with traumas which have happened to them.
“They can run for up to a year and there is no fixed end date for them so this support is a definite boost.”
