Police have today confirmed that the man who died in a New Deer field last night was pensioner Ian Chalmers.
A spokesman for the force said that there was no “apparent” suspicious circumstances surrounding the 71-year-old’s death.
“Police Scotland can confirm that the name of the man who died following an incident in the New Deer area yesterday is Ian Chalmers, aged 71,” he added.
Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and Police Scotland is liaising with the Health and Safety Executive and the Procurator Fiscal.
It is understood that Mr Chalmers was working on the field with a combine harvester.
Emergency services – including fire crews and an air ambulance – were called to the scene at about 3pm.
Paramedics worked on the man for about an hour, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The green machine remained in the middle of the field with crops still mid-way through the conveyor.
His family have not released a statement.
