A man accused of attacking a pensioner cycling in Aberdeen has had the case against him dropped.
Daniel Adams had been accused of assaulting Dionisio Fernandes by punching him on the head and knocking him off his bike at the junction of Great Northern Road and Barron Street in May.
The 65-year-old was left severely injured, and suffered permanent disfigurement and impairment.
Mr Adams went on trial in front of a jury at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, after pleading not guilty to the charges.
Constable Kim Duncan gave evidence that Mr Adams, of Aberdeen, was captured on two separate CCTV recordings close to where Mr Fernandes had been attacked.
But when she was later cross-examined by defence agent Neil McRobert, she admitted there were distinctive differences between a mugshot of Mr Adams and the still CCTV image which she had previously identified as the 23-year-old.
Fiscal depute Anne MacDonald subsequently withdrew the Crown’s case and said they would not be seeking a prosecution.
