More than 5,000 suspected illicit cigarettes and 3.5kg of tobacco have been seized during raids in Buchan.
HM Revenue and Customs officers recovered the haul during raids in Peterhead and Fraserburgh last week.
A large quantity of cash was also found.
In the unconnected operations, HMRC raided two residential addresses and one business address in Fraserburgh and a residential address in the Peterhead area last week.
Last night HMRC confirmed a 32-year-old man had been charged with the fraudulent evasion of excise duty and VAT.
A spokesman urged anyone who suspected someone was trading illicit tobacco in the north-east to come forward.
He said: “HMRC officers will continue to work with law enforcement colleagues to stop and disrupt the distribution and supply of illicit tobacco in the north-east and beyond,” he said.
“This is a trade that harms communities across Scotland and robs UK public services of over £2billion a year. If you see something, say something.”
The latest blitz follows on from seizures made in the area earlier in the summer when a haul of 20,000 cigarettes were picked up by Police Scotland.
Anyone who suspects cigarettes or tobacco are being illegally produced, sold or smuggled can call the HMRC hotline on 0800 595000.
