Students at Aberdeen University have had some of their lectures cancelled due to a major power outage.
At 12.50am the lights went across the university’s King’s College campus.
Vital systems, such as the university’s servers, IT, library and laboratorys, are currently running on emergency power.
The rest of the campus is currently without electricity, however no students have been evacuated.
But a number of lectures which depend on power or data have been called off.
Last month the university’s ÂŁ57 million Sir Duncan Rice library was closed for a week before students arrived for the new academic year.
And it is understood that the power cut has had knock-on effects for Robert Gordon University, whose data centre is housed at the Aberdeen University site.
The RGU site, as well as its phone systems, are both experiencing issues.
A spokesman for Scottish and Southern energy confirmed that the issue has been caused by a “third party” causing damage to a power cable, and that its engineers are currently working hard to restore power.
It is estimated their work will be complete by 3pm.
