Businesspeople from across Aberdeen will get together today to throw their weight behind the fight against cancer.
Dozens of business leaders will take part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning by attending a special event at the city’s Number One Bar and Grill on Queen’s Terrace.
The business coffee morning, which is open to all, was spearheaded by Jim Rae, managing consultant for decommissioning firm D-Comms Scotland Limited in memory of his brother Dave who lost his battle with prostate cancer a number of years ago.
From his initial diagnosis, and all through his treatment, Mr Rae’s brother was helped by the nurses provided by Macmillan.
He said: “During his illness Macmillan were tremendously supportive and fantastic, and showed an incredible willingness to help the family deal with it and come to terms with what was going on.
“And so for the last number of years I’ve been really wanting to do this big coffee morning for Macmillan.
“One of the best things they do is supply a sort of tool kit for employers and employees to help people cope with cancer in the workplace, so I thought it would be a good idea to have a business one and focus on the sport that Macmillan gives to the business community.
“We’re hoping to encourage more businesses to get involved with Macmillan, and of course raise as much money for them as possible.”
Refreshments for the free event, which will run from 10am-noon, have been donated by MacPhie’s of Glenbervie.
Meanwhile, at The Store in Foveran is running a cook book swap as part of their coffee morning.
Piles of books have been donated, and attendees can buy one in aid of Macmillan while enjoying free coffee, tea and cakes.
