Dozens of businessmen and women from across Aberdeen joined forces yesterday to raise more than £1,000 towards the fight against cancer.
Business leaders met at the city’s Number One Bar and Grill on Queen’s Terrace to take part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s “world’s biggest coffee morning”.
The event was one of hundreds being carried out across the UK yesterday as the country united to raise as much cash as possible for Macmillan, who offer extra support to cancer patients that many hospitals cannot provide.
The gathering yesterday at Number One Bar and Grill raised just under £1,500 for the life-changing charity.
Spearheaded by Jim Rae, managing consultant for decommissioning firm D-Comms Scotland Limited, the morning focused on the support that Macmillan offers to businesses whose employees have been affected by the disease.
Mr Rae said: “It was a great turnout, so many people from the local business community were there.
“We were delighted with all the support and donations we received, from all those who donated and all those who baked us treats, it was a real team effort, and we smashed our target fundraising goal.
“We had hoped to encourage more business to get involved with Macmillan, because of the work they do in a workplace environment.
“They supply a sort of toolkit for employees and employers to help people cope with cancer in the workplace, so I thought it would be a good idea to have a business one and focus on the support that Macmillan gives to the business community.”
