Police officers in Aberdeen have issued a reminder for people to drink responsibly and safely over the festive season.
With many people taking to the city centre in the coming months for Halloween, Christmas and New Years, police have warned that excessive drinking can have serious consequences.
Chief Inspector Jackie Craig, of Aberdeen’s alcohol and violence reduction unit said: “Aberdeen is a vibrant city with many events and festivals planned throughout the autumn and winter period and our message is clear – we want people to enjoy all that is on offer but in a safe and responsible manner.
“Drinking to excess affects your awareness and can lead to you becoming involved in situations that you would avoid if sober.
“The consequences involved in crime or being a victim of a crime can be far reaching and long lasting.
“Becoming involved in anti-social behaviour or violence can seriously impact on your future. By throwing a punch you run the risk of seriously injuring that person. From there, when appearing at court you may be remanded if serious injury is caused and not only that, you now have a lasting criminal record.
“If the line is crossed and a crime is committed, we will do everything possible to ensure the person responsible is brought to justice.”
