A flight from Kirkwall Airport in Orkney, due to arrive at 8.45am in Aberdeen, was cancelled.
An Eastern Airways flight departing from Wick was diverted and flights due to arrive from Bristol and Norwich were also delayed.
An Easyjet flight from Aberdeen to London Gatwick was delayed by one hour and 40 minutes and a Flybe flight to Birmingham was held up by almost two hours.
Flights to the East Midlands and Wick were also delayed.
An Aberdeen International Airport spokesman said: “There was fog which has now lifted.
“It was over the airfield during the busy morning period so there were quite a few planes circling waiting to land.
“One flight from Wick was diverted as it was unable to land.
“Flights have been delayed but they will be recovered quite quickly.”
