Terror accused Yousif Badri was “devastated” when two extremists killed soldier Lee Rigby, his former flatmate said yesterday.
Dr Ahtsham Mahmood, who shared a flat with Badri in Aberdeen for four years, told the court that he had never heard him express any extremist views.
But he said the 29-year-old had been deeply shocked and upset when Fusilier Rigby was killed outside his barracks in….
He said: “Yousif was devastated when the Lee Rigby killing happened. He said something really bad had happened. We saw it on the news and we were both completely shocked.
“We sat in shock for a time. Yousif said we as Muslims had to do something to show this is not a reflection of what Islam is supposed to be.”
Dr Mahmood broke down in tears as he recalled the day the police came to their flat, and said he felt like he was being “made out to be a criminal”.
Meanwhile Dr Ayeesha Memone, who studied to be a doctor in Aberdeen at the same time as Badri and invited him to her wedding this summer, told the court he had many friends – both Muslim and non-Muslim.
She added: “He is someone I highly regard, someone I saw as a role model. He is a very kind caring person. There are very few people like him in the world.”
