A former Westminster-hopeful who got behind the wheel while over the drink-drive limit has been banned from the roads for three years.
Masoomul Sumon Hoque was suspended by the Scottish Labour Party in April, after he appeared in court charged with a string of motoring offences.
It was alleged the Banff and Buchan candidate had driven a blue Maserati Quattroporte 4.2 V8 without a licence or valid MoT.
Prosecutors also claimed he abandoned the vehicle on Bridge Street, Aberdeen, causing an obstruction.
Hoque initially denied any involvement when he appeared at the city’s sheriff court just days before the general election.
But last month, the 33-year-old, of 39 Kings Crescent, Aberdeen, admitted committing two of the five charges against him.
The Crown accepted his not guilty pleas to the other three allegations when he admitted driving while over the legal limit and failing to identify himself as the vehicle’s driver.
Hoque got behind the wheel of the car with 44 micrograms of alcohol in his breath. The legal limit at the time was 35mcg.
Yesterday Hoque was disqualified from driving for three years, and fined a total of £1,000.
Following his first court appearance, the Scottish Labour Party confirmed it had suspended Hoque.
One source said he had failed to disclose that he had been charged during the candidate selection process, and that it had only come to light when he appeared in court.
Determined to still run for election, Hoque stood as an independent candidate and came in third, with 2,647 votes.
Labour was not officially represented in the constituency as a result.
In an interview with the Press and Journal earlier this year, the former Aberdeen University said he started his working life in business development at the Score Group in Peterhead.
He also worked for Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce and NFU Mutual.
More recently, he said he had been working as a freelance events planner and also in TV production.
