Multiple lifeboats and a number of police officers were sent on a wild goose chase last night after a couple had an argument.
Emergency services scrambled to the River Dee after an unidentified man who had just fallen out with his girlfriend called her and threatened to jump into the water.
Fearing for his safety, his girlfriend contacted the police and coastguard, who responded quickly, concerned for the man’s safety.
Officers found the time waster sitting at home.
A spokesman for the coastguard said: “The RNLI lifeboat from Stonehaven and from Aberdeen were dispatched.
“we were tied up for over an hour looking for the man. He was found by police sitting at home… these kind of incidents can have consequences.”
