A pampered pooch who has been adjusting to life with only three legs will be the centre of attention at an animal charity awareness day.
Black labrador Katy had one of her legs amputated after a fracture that was suffered at around eight weeks old was left untreated.
Owner Lynn Paterson – who is organising the Dawgs Day in the Country event at Haddo – has been busy nursing the seven year old pet back to health.
Lynn and her husband Ian, from Auchedly near Ellon, adopted Katy from Dawgs when she was a puppy.
The couple knew she might eventually lose her leg, but tried a less radical treatment first.
But recently her condition deteriorated, leaving no alternative to surgery.
Lynn said: “It was a nerve-wracking time for us – we didn’t know how Katy would respond or recover and we spoilt her rotten before the operation.
“Katy didn’t have the best start in life but thanks to Dawgs she got a second chance and we have had a wonderful dog who has given us so much affection and pleasure over the last seven years.”
Dawgs Day in the Country will be held at Haddo Country Park on Sunday, June 1.
The charity is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with more than 2,000 dogs re-homed since it opened its doors.
The event will feature children’s entertainment, activities for dogs, stalls, games and quizzes.
David Hekelaar, chairman of Dawgs, said: “Katy’s story has inspired us all recently and we are delighted that we have been able to help her and so many other lovely dogs”
Entry to the event, which starts at 12.30pm and runs until 4pm, is free.
