A pensioner who was mugged in a north-east town is determined the ordeal will not stop him living his life.
Tom Gear was targeted in the Longate area of Peterhead and £60 was stolen from his coat pocket.
The 87-year-old was not injured in the incident but his jacket was ripped.
And his daughter, Roselyn, said her father was not going to become a prisoner in his own home despite what had happened.
She said: “He says he’s a survivor and won’t let anyone get him out of his routine – he’s not going to let someone like that destroy his confidence.
“I just thank God he wasn’t hurt.”
A north-east businesswoman started a fund for Mr Gear when she heard about the mugging.
And so far Michelle Maskame, who runs Blue Hair and Beauty in Peterhead’s town centre, has been able to hand over £630 to help him get back on his feet.
His daughter said the gesture had been a huge boost to her father and added: “We were overwhelmed at everybody’s kindness.
“He’s not sure what he’s going to do with all the money, because he’s a man of small needs, but we’ve put it away safe in his bank. It’s a lot of money.”
Miss Maskame said she was upset when she heard about what had happened to Mr Gear.
She said: “I don’t know him personally, but we often see him out with his walking sticks and he likes to go out and about every day.
“When that happened we were worried that he might not ever leave his flat again, but he has been out since.”
A 35-year-old woman has been charged with theft in connection with the incident involving Mr Gear.
