Accidents and traffic light gremlins caused chaos for motorists in Aberdeen yesterday.
The signals at the junction of Market Street and Guild Street went out at 11.30am – and police officers were drafted in until a temporary set were put in place around 4.30pm.
Traffic was brought to a standstill on a number of roads across the city, and just before 6pm Stagecoach confirmed that 59 of its buses were more than 35 minutes late due to the congestion.
Aberdeen City Council workers were battling to repair the problem lights overnight.
Meanwhile, drivers leaving Aberdeen to head north had to deal with queues because of an extensive fuel spill on the A90 Aberdeen-Ellon road.
It happened around 2.30pm and extended from Blackdog to just north of Ellon, leaving one northbound lane of the busy road very slippery.
The route was not closed, but motorists were forced to slow to a crawl.
Staff from roads company Bear Scotland worked throughout the afternoon to clean up the spill in before the evening rush started.
Motorists travelling west out of the city were also delayed after an accident on the A96 Aberdeen-Inverurie.
A motorcyclist was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with a shoulder injury after coming off his bike close to the Broomhill roundabout hear Kintore around 5.50pm.
The road was not closed but drivers were delayed while the emergency services were at the scene.
Elsewhere, a car veered off the A920 Oldmeldrum-Colpy road, about half a mile from the Drum Inn at Meikle Wartle, around 5.30pm.
No one was injured in the accident.
And at around 6.15pm, a silver Skoda Fabia crashed on the same stretch of road.
An ambulance service spokesman said a man in his 50s was taken to ARI with a back injury.
