An Aberdeenshire man has been jailed after he broke a reveller’s jaw with one punch.
Scott Faskin, 23, had to have a metal plate inserted in his mouth and a wisdom tooth removed after he was attacked by Gary Shields at Edwards nightclub in Inverurie.
Mr Faskin had been out drinking with his brother during the early hours of February 8 when Shields lashed out.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard yesterday that Mr Faskin had tried to “squeeze past” Shields’s partner to get to the bar, and argument broke out.
About 10 minutes later 44-year-old Shields punched Mr Faskin on the side of the head to his “severe injury” causing him to fall down the stairs and break his jaw.
Mr Faskin complained of “soreness” and was taken to accident and emergency where he had treatment.
Shields admitted the assault when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
Defence agent Neil McRobert said Shields had no convictions for violence since 2002, and stressed he had submitted a guilty plea at earliest opportunity.
But Sheriff Graham Buchanan said the crime was “too serious” for Shields to avoid jail.
He sentenced him to nine months behind bars and banned him from the nightclub for 18 months.
A woman, believed to be Shields partner, wept in court as the sentence was announced.
