Coastguard teams scrambled down rocky cliffaces to save a distressed dog at the ruins of a north-east castle this afternoon.
Two teams were dispatched to Slains Castle, just north of Cruden Bay, after an emergency call was received at around 2pm.
It is understood that a dog, a Jack Russel/West Highland Terrier cross, fell down a wall at the castle and became stranded on one of the area’s many rocky cliffs.
The coastguard teams, one from Peterhead and another from Cruden Bay, had to scale the cliffs with ropes to retrieved the dog, who has now been safely reunited with its owner.
A coastguard spokesman said :”We received a call from a member of the public regarding a dog which had become stranded after a fall.
“Our teams carried out a rope rescue operation to get the dog back to safety.”
