The collision, involving a blue Volkswagen Golf Estate, took place at around 9.55pm near the junction with Wapping Street.
The 33-year-old driver was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where his condition is stable.
Sergeant Jon Barron, of the Aberdeen Division Road Policing Unit, said:
“This was a serious collision at a busy junction in the city centre.
“At the time the area is likely to have been busy with pedestrians and other vehicles.
“We have already spoken to several people, however I would urge anyone who has not yet come forward and who may have witnessed it or seen the vehicle in the area to contact us on 101.”
