Police are hunting for three men after a 43-year-old was attacked in Turriff at the weekend.
The group approached the man in the early hours of Sunday on Main Street, and assaulted him.
The incident, which happened at about 2am, left the victim with injuries to his face which required him to be taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.
Constable Craig Milne, of the divisional violence reduction unit, last night urged witnesses to come forward.
He said: “At the time of the incident, the town centre would have been busy with people who had been at local licensed premises and I would ask anyone who has any information to contact the police.”
Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
