A teenager has been placed under supervision after he was caught sending naked pictures of himself to a teenage girl.
Eighteen-year-old Simon Dawson appeared from custody at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday to be sentenced having previously admitted committing two sex offences on September 29, 2013.
The court heard Dawson, who was 16 at the time, had been in frequent contact with the girl – who can not be named for legal reasons – over text.
However things soon started to become sexual.
The court heard the girl, who was under 16, had sent Dawson an intimate picture of herself and he sent her one back in return.
He also sent her messages which were sexually explicit in their content.
Representing the first offender, solicitor Neil MacRobert said his client had only started to send the messages after he received similar ones from the complainer.
He said: “He is now 18. He was 16 at the time of the offence. What is clear is that she had sent him some pictures of a graphic nature and he sent her pictures back.
“He had been drinking at the time of the offence. He knows he shouldn’t have done it but the messages were not unsolicited.
“The messages were being sent back and forth between the two of them.”
The court heard that despite Dawson, of 25 Seaview Road, Aberdeen, admitting to two sexual offences, it did not require him to be placed on the sex offenders’ register.
Sheriff Edward Savage ordered that he be placed under supervision for nine months.
