A furious Aberdeen man has called on council chiefs to tackle their fine policy after landing a parking ticket on match day.
Emlyn Corbett, 25, and fiancee Kirsty Wallace, 23, live near Pittodrie Stadium and left their car on Seaforth Road – which has match day parking restrictions – while they were on a weekend trip to St Andrews.
Mr Corbett said he didn’t think it would be an issue as he knew no Scottish Premier League games were being played.
But what he didn’t realise was that Scotland’s unders 21s clash with France was being played – and as a result he was hit with a £30 fine.
An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman confirmed there were 22 parking fines on Seaforth Road that day.
The spokeswoman said residents are encouraged to check when games will occur at Pittodrie and there is an appeals process if anyone feels they have been unfairly given a parking ticket.
She added prominent signs inform people of road closures and some routes have to be kept clear for emergency vehicles.
But the health, safety, environment and quality advisor said: “We check when Aberdeen are playing just to find out, but we hadn’t been aware of this game being played.
“I completely understand the controls are in place to ease congestion during games – that’s absolutely fine – but the council should be informing residents.”
He added it is unreasonable to expect residents to know when a Scotland under 21s match is on.
