Angry shopkeepers in a north-east town have spoken out after yet another store was broken into over the weekend.
Police were called to Stephens Newsagents in Fraserburgh on Saturday following a raid.
It is understood thieves accessed the store from the rear of the property.
The shutters of the High Street store was down throughout the weekend as police conducted investigations, and now local business owners have spoken out.
Fellow newsagent Ian Dyga, whose Broad Street store was broken into earlier this month, said he first heard of the latest incident from customers.
“We had loads of people in getting their papers from us instead,” he said. “The police were there and the shutters were down all day.
“We can’t be in our shops 24 hours a day. It’s getting ridiculous.”
R&S Dyga was raided earlier this month, with the culprits kicking in the window before making off with more than £1,000 of cigarettes.
A town centre bakery, Boots and Farmfoods have also been targeted in recent weeks.
Mr Dyga added: “What’s happening is really worrying. I’m concerned that this could happen to us again. We’ve got our fingers crossed that it doesn’t.”
Local councillor and businessman Hamish Partridge, whose Partridge’s ice cream parlour is opposite Stephens Newsagents, said: “There have been a concerning amount of break-ins lately and I understand the police are doing all they can.
“If anybody has any information I’d ask them to come forward, and it’s now a case that people have to be vigilant with their security and locking up.”
Last night a police spokesman was unable to confirm the status of the investigation.
The management of Stephens Newsagents were unavailable for comment last night.
