Nearly £10,000 was snatched from a Fraserburgh newsagents over the weekend, police have confirmed.
Officers were called to Stephens Newsagents in the town’s High Street on Saturday after it was discovered the money was missing.
Last night a police spokeswoman said: “We are carrying out inquiries following the theft of a high four-figure sum of money from Stephens Newsagents in the High Street, Fraserburgh.
“The theft is believed to have happened overnight between Friday and Saturday. We are following a positive line of inquiry.”
She urged anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has any information about the theft, to contact the police.
It was initially reported locally that the High Street shop had been broken into, however officers now say that they are investigating a theft and not a house breaking incident.
The management of Stephens Newsagents were unavailable for comment last night.
