US firm Uber, partly owned by Google, is looking at covering the Energy Capital of Europe from next year. Data gathered by the firm showed a high volume of people in Aberdeen had downloaded the firm’s smartphone app already. Uber have drivers in 300 cities across the world, connecting passengers to drivers through the app. The Google subsidiary takes 20% of the fare. Uber say its drivers are required to pass enhanced disclosure checks. The Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association (LTDA) took the company to the High Court in London claiming that Uber flouted licensing laws. Judges ruled the app was lawful. The firm confirmed they’d like to be in Aberdeen next year. A confrontation during a 24-hour taxi strike and protest against Uber drivers. (AP)
