A couple left stranded in Aberdeen have praised a good Samaritan who gave them a ride home – on their own personal bus.
Allan and Caroline Donkin were waiting for the 11pm bus home to Cove after a night out earlier this month.
But due to a crash, their bus was diverted from their stop and they were left stranded in the city centre.
To make matters worse, Mrs Donkin is recovering from a knee operation so is on crutches.
The pair made their way to the Stagecoach office at Union Square’s bus station on Guild Street, but once the stance controller broke the news that none of their buses would be able to take the to Cove at that time of night.
As they stood on Guild Street examining the night bus timetable, a Stagecoach bus pulled up – driven by none other than the stance controller they had just spoken to, Dave Hamil.
Despite being close to the end of his shift, Mr Hamil decided to give the pair a ride all the way home on their very own coach.
Mr Donkin, 64, said: “We thought wow, what a fantastic thing to do.
“It was just the two of us, he gave us a ride all the way home, all by ourselves.
“It was really nothing to do with Stagecoach, the busses being diverted, so it was really great for Dave to go out of his way for us.”
Graeme Leslie, operations director for Stagecoach North Scotland, congratulated Mr Hamil on his quick-thinking and generosity for helping out the Donkins in their time of need.
He said: “This isn’t the first time Dave has gone above and beyond his call of duty while on shift.
“He is a valuable member of our team and we are very proud he was able to help Mr and Mrs Donkin when their travel plans didn’t quite go to plan.”
