A north-east youngster came out on top last night at the world’s most prestigious fiddle competition.
George Davidson, from Tarves, was crowned winner of the 26th annual Glenfiddich Fiddle Championship at a special ceremony at Blair Castle in Perthshire.
The event pits some of the best fiddlers in Scotland against each other to compete for the top prize and aims to keep Scottish traditional music alive for future generations.
The 19-year-old said it was a great to have taken part, never mind win.
“There is such an incredible atmosphere that comes with the Glenfiddich Fiddle Championship,” he said.
“Knowing you are competing in a prestigious competition in the beautiful setting of Blair Castle just feels magical.
“Then to win in what is seen as the most prestigious competition of the traditional Scottish fiddle world, takes that feeling to a whole new level.
“I’m delighted and can’t wait to celebrate.”
Nick Addington, chief executive of the William Grant Foundation – which supports the event – said he was glad to help spot new talent.
He said: “The William Grant Foundation is delighted to support this event which has been going for several decades.
“We are conscious of its honoured role in celebrating and spotlighting some of the great talents that are keeping Scottish traditional music alive and loved.
“Many congratulations to all the competitors who have earned the right to compete here.”
