An Aberdeenshire care home that came under fire for the way it treated a resident has been given a glowing report from inspectors as staff “work tirelessly” to improve the service.
The Care Inspectorate visited Mowat Court Care Home in Stonehaven earlier this month, where they praised staff and management for how committed they are to providing a good service.
The home was awarded 4’s – “Good” – across the board for all aspects of its running, including the quality of care and support and the quality of the environment.
The family of one resident said they had noticed an “improvement” in the service in the last couple of years, and that they were happy things had “settled down”.
The Care UK-run home has been plagued by criticism since the family of one resident, Gladys Burr, claimed the facility had accelerated her death.
The manager of the home at the time, Pamela Tavendale, was subsequently suspended then struck off, while another former boss, Ian Anderson, was sacked when he did not do enough to take care of “vulnerable residents”.
Yesterday, a Care UK spokeswoman said the latest findings were “a credit” to the hard work of the team at Mowat Court.
“Everyone there has worked tirelessly to ensure that every resident receives consistently good care and we are delighted that this effort has been recognised by the inspectors,” she said.
“It means that all six homes we run in Scotland are now rated as good or very good for every single element of care that the inspectors look at.”
The Care Inspectorate visited the home without warning in August and September, and their results have now been released.
The inspectors gave staff a number of requirements to comply with, including reviewing the kitchen areas, showers and bathrooms “to ensure residents safety and wellbeing”, and focusing on ways of seeking feedback from residents and relatives.
However, they praised staff for the “welcoming and friendly” atmosphere, the “understanding” they have for people’s needs and the “positive” feedback from
residents.
“Those staff spoken with demonstrated a focus and a commitment to providing care that achieved positive outcomes for people,” they said.
