A team from a north-east engineering firm have raised thousands of pounds on a gruelling adventure run in memory of their company director.
Dales Engineering Services boss Charlie Lawson lost his fight with cancer in April.
In tribute to him, a team of 26 staff from Peterhead tackled the infamous Banchory Beast 10K challenge and have now presented cancer charity Friends of Anchor with a cheque for £13,000.
The charity was chosen in appreciation of the care that Mr Lawson received at the Anchor unit during his treatment and final weeks.
Kevin Thomson, operations director at Dales Engineering, said: “The Banchory Beast 10k was a fantastic opportunity for us to rally together to raise funds for a great local charity.
“Despite all the scrapes and bruises the next day, everyone absolutely loved doing whatever they could to battle their way to the finish line of the ‘beastly challenge’.”
“After losing Charlie to cancer, we felt passionate about doing our bit to help raise money for others facing this terrible disease.”
Mr Thomson said he was proud all the money raised would be spent locally, and that the donation to Anchor was a “lasting legacy” for his boss.
Sarah-Jane Hogg, from the charity, added: “To have raised the staggering sum of £13,000 is tremendous. That level of generosity and support is a real testament to Charlie and the impact his loss has had on so many.”
The 1,500 participants who took part in this year’s Banchory Beast 10K race had to jump, crawl, swim, run and climb to conquer the Deeside course.
Joining the team from Dales Engineering were 30 other daring runners who took on the arduous 10k adventure run in support of the North-east’s cancer charity.
Thanks to the 50-strong team of Friends of Anchor runners, a grand total of £16,574 has been raised for the cause.
The money will be invested in the procurement of non-NHS provided equipment for the unit, ground-breaking research at Aberdeen University’s medical sciences institute, and additional care for Anchor patients.
