VIDEO: Heartbroken pupils lay tributes at Cults Academy

Floral tributes have been left outside Cults Academy this evening after a pupil was stabbed to death.

Police were called to a “serious incident” at Cults Academy at 1.30pm, with one pupil taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he has now died.

Another pupil, believed to be 16-years-old, has been detained by police.

Hundreds of people have also taken to social media to pay tributes to the 16-year-old, who has been named locally as Bailey Gwynne.

Aberdeen City Council have also confirmed that the school will be closed tomorrow while police carry out enquiries.

Chief Inspector Graeme Mackie said: “This is a shocking and extraordinary incident for Aberdeen and firstly our thoughts are with the family and friends of the boy who has sadly lost his life today.

“A full and thorough enquiry is under way has been launched and there will be a police presence in the area for the foreseeable future.

“We are working closely with the education authorities and wider community as I am sure this incident will be felt not only in Aberdeen but much further afield.”
