Fresh images have been released showing a proposed multimillion-pound expansion of an Aberdeen shopping centre.
Union Square is in line for a £200million expansion, with mall managers Hammerson submitting a proposal of application notice to the council earlier in September.
There are two design themes being put forward by developers – one called “The Granite City and its Harbour” and the other “Aberdeen’s Maritime Heritage”.
The latest image, released by developers today, shows how the maritime concept might look from a Market Street perspective, with views looking out across the harbour.
It is an updated version of the design that was on public display in September, but now includes an option for a hotel too.
The developers are presenting the latest image at a meeting of Aberdeen City Council’s pre-application forum this afternoon.
Included in the proposals will is a 300,000sq ft extension on the site of the current surface car park with a replacement multi-storey car park to be built.
A hotel is also planned for the site with existing shopping space to be remodelled.
It is understood a planning application would be submitted to the city council towards the end of the year.
If the plans are approved, there would be an estimated 1,000 construction jobs and 1,000 retail jobs created by the extension, with hopes that work will start by early 2017.
