Police have charged a 16-year-old male following the death of an Aberdeen school pupil yesterday afternoon.
Bailey Gwynne, a 16-year-old pupil at Cults Academy died following an incident at the school.
The 16-year-old is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Friday 30 October.
Tributes have poured in for Bailey with a steady stream of pupils placing floral tributes at the school gates, many visibly shocked and tearful.
Counselling is being made available to pupils and staff at the school which will be closed to pupils today and Friday.
During First Minister’s questions earlier today, Nicola Sturgeon said: “May I begin by expressing my shock and sadness at the incident which occurred at Cults Academy.
“I also want to convey my deepest sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of Bailey Gwynne who tragically died in the incident.
“While the circumstances are subject to ongoing and thorough police investigation I’m sure that the whole chamber will want all those who loved Bailey and indeed all those at the school who will have been affected by the charity to know that our thoughts are very much with them at this sad time.”
