Staff at an Aberdeen firm are donning their running shoes at the weekend to raise funds for charity.
The 20 workers at offshore engineering company Apollo have been training hard for the 10k Baker Hughes race, which gets under way on Sunday.
The team are raising money for Alzheimer’s Scotland, a cause close to the heart of director Steve Leaper, a former psychologist who worked in Aberdeen’s Cornhill Hospital.
His grandfather had the early symptoms of Alzheimer’s at the time of his death and Mr Leaper regularly came into contact with people who suffered from the condition when he worked in the health service.
The 45-year-old from Newburgh said: “We have a young staff demographic and I think people have grandparents or parents who are at risk and they felt they wanted to do something to make a difference.
“Our training has been quite competitive and we are all on the website Strava, which allows you to track your friends’ progress in their training regime.”
The group is also doing pub quizzes in a bid to raise funds, and one of the members is running the Edinburgh marathon later this month for the charity.
And participants on Sunday have an added incentive as prizes will be awarded afterwards.
Mr Leaper added: “We have a very active social committee within the company and they are organising prizes.
“There is one which takes into account your age and your time and another for the best dressed entrant which is for the runner with the most creative fancy dress. We are hoping the weather will be kind on Sunday.”
