A teenager has been expelled from a north-east school amid allegations he threatened a teacher with a knife.
The 13-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was a pupil at Mackie Academy in Stonehaven.
He was accused of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner while carrying a knife in the classroom.
The boy was subsequently charged by police and later reported to the youth justice management unit.
The Press and Journal understands that Mackie Academy has now permanently excluded the teen and he is no longer a pupil at the school.
Stonehaven and Lower Deeside councillor Raymond Christie said: “I wasn’t aware of any incident like this taking place at the school, but if it did happen it’s horrendous, and it shouldn’t be going on.”
Last night, police confirmed a schoolboy had been charged in connection with an incident involving a knife at the school.
A police spokeswoman said: “A 13-year-old boy was charged and reported to the youth justice management unit in relation to an incident at Mackie Academy.”
A spokeswoman for Aberdeenshire Council said it could not comment on individual cases.
The incident happened at the end of August.
