Heartless vandals have repeatedly targeted an Aberdeen church costing thousands of pounds of damage.
In the last week, the windows at Fernielea Gospel Hall, on Summerhill Terrace, Mastrick, have been smashed on two separate occasions.
The church has revealed these are the latest in a series of incidents this past year, which amounts to about £4,000 worth of damage.
Last night, church elder Paul Coxall said they had been targeted at least eight times in the last 12 months.
And Mr Coxall is now concerned there is a serious risk of someone being injured.
He said: “It always seems to be community buildings that are targeted, we have had three separate incidents in the past three weeks.
“On one of the occasions there were actually people inside the building when the windows were smashed – if glass fell in it would be a whole lot worse than just a window being broken.
“I think the only way it could be solved is if the people responsible had some sense of respect for their community, which they don’t, otherwise they wouldn’t go around breaking other people’s property.”
Mr Coxall said the church is having to foot the bill for the damage at the facility, which is the venue for a number of local groups throughout the week.
He added: “The time and the hassle it costs to sort everything out just creates this despondency.
“When you finally get everything fixed and you turn up the next day to find another three windows broken.
“There’s so many community groups that use the building free of charge and they have to turn up to find the windows boarded up.
“I’ve been here for 20 years and we’ve always had problems, but this is definitely the worst it’s ever been.”
A police investigation has now been launched into the circumstances surrounding the two most recent incidents, on Thursday and Friday last week.
