An Aberdeenshire nurse is to face a disciplinary hearing over allegations she tried to insert a catheter into a distressed patient who had recently undergone hip surgery.
Carol Anne West is alleged to have not followed procedures on the patient while working as a Marie Curie Cancer Care nurse at Lethen Park Care Home in Portlethen.
It is said that she did not check the patient’s records before attempting to catheterise Patient A, bent the patient’s knees up when they had recently undergone a hip replacement and left a catheter in the incorrect position whilst attempting to insert a new one.
It is further alleged she continued with her attempts when Patient A became distressed.
The incident allegedly happened on September 22, 2013.
A Nursing and Midwifery Council panel will hear the case in Edinburgh on November 17.
A spokesman for the care home confirmed Ms West was no longer employed there.
