The stars will come out at the north-east’s only independent cinema today as it welcomes the director and actors behind an adaptation of a beloved local novel.
Award-winning British filmmaker Terence Davies will be in Aberdeen to officially launch his big-screen version of Sunset Song alongside the stars, Agyness Deyn and Kevin Guthrie.
The trio will be at the city’s Belmont Filmhouse to introduce the movie to its spiritual homeland following a string of showings in Glasgow and Edinburgh this week.
The cast and crew of the movie – which was filmed in Aberdeenshire in 2014 – will take part in a questions and answers session prior to the screening at 6pm.
Tickets for the feature sold out within just 90 minutes of going on sale – with staff saying they could have sold the same amount “four times over”.
Marketing and events manager of Belmont Filmhouse, Dallas King, said the phone rang non-stop after tickets for Sunset Song were released earlier this year.
He added: “It is fantastic. It will be quite glamorous and glitzy for us.
“We are delighted to be hosting the special preview screening of Sunset Song, particularly given the importance of the film to the local area.
“We are looking forward to welcoming the director and cast members for what we are sure will be a wonderful evening.”
The film is an adaptation of Arbuthnott-born author, Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s, 1932 novel of the same name, which is regarded by many as one of the greatest novels of the 20th century.
It tells the story of Chris Guthrie, a farmer’s daughter in the fictional Mearns town of Kinraddie, who bears witness to the demise of her home town and its way of life during and after World War I.
Former supermodel Miss Deyn plays the character in one of her biggest roles to date.
Among the Aberdeenshire locations used for Sunset Song include Fettercairn, and the Glenmuick, Glen Tanar, Invercauld and Ballogie estates.
